Man United could be about to cash in on Anthony Martial this summer.
Last season was another step forward for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United. The Red Devils moved closer to their local rivals in the title race, while reaching their first final under the Baby Faced Assassin.
One player who struggled to assert himself last term, though, was Anthony Martial. A foray of injuries coupled with some average performances meant he’d end the season on a low.
However, after putting in the work in pre-season, Martial will be looking to hit the ground running in 2021/22. Whether that’s at Old Trafford remains to be seen…
Yesterday, The Sun on Sunday ran a story that throws Martial’s Red Devils future up in the air.
Apparently, United are ‘ready to sell’ the 78-goal star, with European giant, Inter Milan, showing an interest. The current Serie A champions are eyeing the striker as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku – who looks to be heading back to the Premier League with Chelsea.
It’s claimed that if United can recoup close to the £50million they paid to sign Martial six years ago, then he’ll be off to the San Siro.
The Sun state that when Lukaku’s move to Stamford Bridge is confirmed, Inter will ‘ramp up’ their efforts to sign our Frenchman. It’s thought that the Milan outfit initially want to acquire Martial on loan.
That is far from ideal for United, who’d like to sell outright. There could be an agreement reached on a loan deal if there is an obligation to buy, though.
United and Inter have a good relationship following the transfers of Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young recently. So hopefully, if United want to cash in on Martial, an agreement could be reached.
At this point, I think it’s fair to say Martial hasn’t kicked on as much as we’d all have liked. Whether or not he should be sold is likely to divide fan opinion. Personally, I wouldn’t be too fussed either way.
Enough is enough. He has been given enough time to be a united first choice striker but he has failed to live up to the Manchester United way. Am also a fan of him, but he has really disappointed me……..a quick, skillful, deadly on goal and wonderful accuracy kind of a player like him at his age, should be playing at highest level. One thing is lacking from him.
