Manchester United target Pau Torres to decide future after Euros
According to transfer news from Express, Manchester United linked Pau Torres will decide on his future after the Euros. The Villarreal defender who has a £55million release clause is currently occupied with Spain and he will take a call on what lies ahead only after the tournament’s conclusion.
The 24-year-old is coming off an excellent season that ended with him helping Villarreal beat us in the Europa League final. Now with the Spanish squad for the Euros, Torres has seen his star rise in recent months. A calm collected customer on the ball, he is one of the classic modern-day centre-backs.
The Red Devils are keen to bring in a defender and have identified the 24-year-old as one of their targets. Being left-footed, he is seen as the ideal foil to Maguire ahead of Lindelof and Bailly. United, on their part, are looking to strengthen the side further after the addition of Jadon Sancho.
While it was initially expected that Raphael Varane is who United are putting their weight behind, a move for Torres has not been ruled out. However, United will have to wait as the defender will only decide on his future after the Euros. Spain are set to play Italy in the semis and provided they make it further, United will have to wait until the 11th.
Pau Torres has been linked with Manchester United
Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano also explained the situation.
“After the Euros, Pau Torres will decide about his future. Keep an eye on Manchester United because Pau Torres has always been on the list. He has a release clause of €65m with Villarreal. Spanish clubs are also looking for centre-backs, Barcelona, Real Madrid. If Manchester City sell Laporte, maybe they will think about signing a new centre-back.”
Whatever happens, United know they need at least one new defender ahead of next season. Torres has been in form over the last few seasons. He also fits the bracket of what United have looked for in potential signings. Though they have to wait, it could be worth it.
