Manchester United on alert after Declan Rice comments

According to transfer news from Express, Declan Rice has put Manchester United on alert after his latest comments. The West Ham midfielder wants to play in the Champions League and that could aid clubs like United and Chelsea, who are after the player.

A defensive midfielder, Rice is also capable of playing at centre-back. United scouts believe he could even develop into an impactful box-to-box player in the future. His versatility will give manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a number of options.

Declan Rice has been on Manchester United’s radar for a long time

The 22-year-old has been one of the best players in his age group and has been critical in the Hammers’ bid for a top-four finish. Despite his age, his ability and leadership qualities make him stand out among his peers.

Declan Rice recently spoke out on his ambitions to play in Europe’s elite club competition.

“To have that Champions League music playing, that’s where I want to be. It’s special, I can’t really describe it to be honest. As a kid it’s your dream, first of all to play in the Premier League, but to be competing for the Champions League [as well].

You know West Ham, people say (we’re) a midtable club and last three seasons we’ve been battling relegation. But this, what we’re doing now, has always been there. It was just about when. We’re on fire.”

It’s true that West Ham are also close to a Champions League spot but there is a good chance that they might have to settle for a Europa League place instead. However, United are all but sure of finishing second this season.

The Red Devils are in need of an excellent summer where key weaknesses in the team are addressed. Bringing in Rice will not only be an improvement over Fred but also cover for the ageing Nemanja Matic.

Bringing in Rice would be a major addition to a young United side striving to reach greater heights.
