Manchester United could fund Erling Haaland transfer by selling Jesse Lingard

A report by Express mentions that Manchester United could raise cash from selling Jesse Lingard and one goalkeeper in order to outbid other clubs in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund striker, Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian striker is one of the hottest prospects in Europe, having scored 47 goals in 48 games for the Black and Yellow since his January 2020 transfer from RB Leipzig.

And with a new recruitment team in place, Haaland is ‘widely thought’ to be a priority for the club. They will try again for him this summer after being rejected by him twice in the past.

It will take a fee north of £100million in order to land the 20-year-old superstar. But if he stays at Dortmund for another season, his £70million release clause will kick in once the 2022 summer transfer window commences.

There is no shortage of teams that are after Haaland. Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United have all been linked with a move for him.

And while Solskjaer stated in the past that United could not spend freely due to the financial impacts of Covid-19, the club could make extra cash by offloading Jesse Lingard and one out of David de Gea and Dean Henderson.

United have put a £20million price tag on the 28-year-old playmaker who joined the Hammers on loan in January. And the London club are prepared to move ‘heaven and earth’ in order to sign Lingard.

As for the goalkeepers, one out of de Gea and Henderson could leave, with the Englishman priced somewhere around £50million. Pogba is another player that could bring in cash, but United hope to retain him in the summer.
