Manchester United will need to fork out £34m to sign Kieran Trippier this summer
According to The Sun, Manchester United appear to have no option but to pay what it takes to land Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier this summer.
The 30-year-old is amongst our key summer targets and will add much needed attacking verve at right-back. Add to it his ability on set-pieces and we could have yet another quiver in our arsenal going into the new campaign.
Atletico however are unwilling to let the player go on the cheap. The Spaniards are keen to see Trippier’s release clause worth £34m be met. It represents a significant price for a player with little to no resale value.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been a mainstay for the Red Devils at right-back ever since he joined the club in 2019. For all his defensive prowess, the Englishman is sorely lacking when it comes to attacking impetus. The role of the modern full-back has evolved in recent years and Wan-Bissaka’s shortcomings are clear going forward.
Securing Trippier will certainly offer us something different. In fact, he could further strengthen the output offered by new signing Jadon Sancho. The right-winger is a dominant force on his own but is even more effective when paired with an attacking-minded wing-back who can overlap his runs.
Manchester United have finally signed Jadon Sancho.
One only has to see the impact he had at Borussia Dortmund playing alongside Achraf Hakimi. The right-wing, an area of weakness could soon turn into one of strength.
Trippier for his part is keen to move to Manchester. The full-back is worried that he could be priced out of a move and this remains a distinct possibility now. The 30-year-old played a key role for Atletico as they won the La Liga title. He was eventually named in the La Liga team of the year.
