Manchester United are reportedly confident they will win the hunt to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, in spite of Chelsea desperately pushing for a summer deal.
Despite rejecting a move to Old Trafford 18 months ago, the Norway centre-forward holds his fellow countryman Solskjaer in high regard.
And United senior figures think he’ll prove key in landing the sought-after attacker, according to The Sun.
Ole has penned a new three-year contract, which United bosses hope will convince Erling he’s there for the long haul.
It’s thought he’d be unwilling to move to the Theatre of Dreams, should Solskjaer be moved on.
The manager has remained in close contact with the forward since they worked together at Molde.
However, while they believe they would beat the Blues to a deal if it became a direct shootout in 2022, the west Londoners are hoping to avoid that scenario by landing him in this transfer window.
There has been little movement, with Die Borussen adamant they are not selling him this summer.
Haaland has a £63 million exit clause that comes into effect next year, with interested parties needing to pay more than twice that if they want to land him this summer.
Chelsea are ready to do that but BVB are expected to hold firm and if he remains at the club, United believe they’ll be the club snapping him up.
