Manchester United have opened negotiations over a summer transfer swoop for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports from Italy.
The Old Trafford outfit are widely expected to sell Paul Pogba in the summer, and Serbian international Sergej could replace him at Old Trafford.
The 25-year-old star had impressed in helping Biancocelesti to second place in Serie A, netting five goals along the way, before the campaign was suspended due to the coronavirus crisis.
And the 20-time English champions have now begun discussions with the midfielder’s representatives, according to Foot Mercato.
The Italian publication states United see him as the ideal replacement for Paul, but face competition from Juventus, Real Madrid and Paris-Saint Germain
Last month it was reported that the Parisians were preparing a bid for the £87m-rated dynamic midfielder.
Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Paris Saint-Germain director Leonardo is a big fan of the star and is ready to stump up the cash.
Milinkovic-Savic is contracted to Biancocelesti until 2024, so any club wanting to land him would have to meet Lazio’s asking price of €100 million (£87m).
Chelsea have also previously been mentioned with the 15-cap Serbia ace.
Lazio chairman Claudio Lotito had previously revealed that they’d be open to the sale of their key player – if they receive an offer that meets their valuation.
Claudio said: “Milinkovic has a good rapport with the club, just as the club has with him. If some offers were to be presented, we’d evaluate them with a spirit of collaboration that looks after the interests of the club and the player. We’ll make the decisions that are best for everyone.”
