Unless you’ve been living under a rock recently, you’ll know that Manchester United’s troubles are stemming from defensive issues. Harry Maguire always seems to have a huge mistake in him, while Victor Lindelof’s nervousness seems to be rubbing off on everyone…

It’s no surprise then, to see United linked with a move to sign a new centre-half every other day. The name that’s popping up most often? Nikola Milenkovic.

The centre-half currently plies his trade for Fiorentina in Serie A. However, his days with the Florence-based outfit look like they’re drawing to a close.

According to Corriere dello Sport‘s Wednesday print edition, transcribed by Sport Witness, it’s claimed that the likelihood of Milenkovic renewing his deal, which expires in 2022 is ‘near impossible’.

Here’s where United come in. The Red Devils are apparently ‘in front row’ to sign Milenkovic this summer, while a Reds move is a ‘temptation’ for the player.

It’s no surprise to see United interested, particularly in a player of Milenkovic’s calibre who could be available for under market value due to his contract situation.

For the Reds, this would be a gamble worth taking despite Milenkovic’s lack of Premier League football. I guess the major issue would be competition from other clubs. After all, they’ll be more than one interested party going into the summer transfer window, that’s for sure.

In our opinion, this one has legs. Obviously, nothing concrete is going to happen for at least a few months yet – though it’s certainly a rumour that we’d expect to pick up in pace as we approach a massive summer window for the Old Trafford outfit.
