Aston Villa have reportedly been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Manchester United versatile defender Axel Tuanzebe.
The Villans are believed to be at the front of the queue for the 23-year-old’s defender after recently declaring their interest.
If finalised, the rumoured transfer of the Los Blancos centre-back Raphael Varane to the 20-times English champions would see Tuanzebe slip further down the pecking order at Old Trafford, potentially seeing the team let him leave this summer with Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof also battling for spots in the team.
According to Football Insider, the Midlands club are reportedly favourites to capture the young centre-back, who spent two separate loan spells at Villa Park between 2018 and 2019.
While his first stint was cut short following to injury, Tuanzebe was a regular starter in the Aston Villa that managed to make a promotion back to the Premier League in the 2018-19 season, playing the full game as they defeated Derby County in the playoff final at Wembley.
With Aston Villa reportedly in the market for another defensive-minded player and Man United potentially willing to offload the 23-year-old, Tuanzebe could be set to reunite with Dean Smith side ahead of the next season.
