Manchester United could reportedly move for Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti during this summer’s transfer window if they are unable to sign a new deal for Real Madrid’s centre-back Raphael Varane.
The Red Devils are expected to be in the market for a new centre-back ahead of the 2021-22 season, and Varane has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
However, according to the Manchester Evening News, the 20-times English champions view Umtiti as a potential alternative in the event that they are unable to lure the Real Madrid No.5.
The report suggests that Samuel Umtiti is believed to be available for transfer this summer, having struggled for regular action during the 2020-21 campaign, while Ronald Koeman’s team are keen to trim their wage budget in the coming months following to the financial impact of the coronavirus outbreak.
The 27-year-old has missed a lot of football this season due to a knee problem, playing just 14 games in all competitions for the Catalan club.
Liverpool are also believed to be exploring the possibility of securing the services of French centre-back Samuel Umtiti in the summer.
Man Utd keen on to also agree on a deal for Real Madrid another star Sergio Ramos who is yet to agree on a new contract wit the Los Blancos.
