Man United are prepared to sanction new Roma manager Jose Mourinho’s move for Nemanja Matic and will accept a cut-price fee for the midfielder, according to reports. Just two weeks after being sacked by Spurs, the self-proclaimed Special One landed a job in the Italian capital and quickly earmarked Matic as one of the first players he wanted to buy.
Jose has signed Serbia international twice before, first when he was at Chelsea and then again when he moved to Old Trafford, and he is keen on yet another reunion. Although Red Devils have resisted offers for Matic recently and even extended his deal until 2023, they are now prepared to cash in.
The Giallorossi are in the driving seat to land Matic with the Portuguese manager having made the midfielder a ‘priority’ signing as he looks to transform the squad. The two have a great relationship and Matic would be more than happy to follow his old coach to Rome and try his hand in Serie A.
Red Devils will not demand a big fee either, with Man United not expecting to get more than €10m for a footballer entering the twilight of his career. The Red Devils have ‘no problem’ in allowing the Serbian midfielder to leave and link up with the Portuguese boss, and Matic is now fully expected to depart Man United this summer.
As well as providing experience on the pitch, Jose Mourinho feels Matic can lead by example off it and help overhaul the mentality of the Roma squad, while the club also hope he can be a mentor to emerging teenager Ebrima Darboe.
