Manchester United have allegedly made a transfer enquiry for the highly-rated Sporting Lisbon’s top scorer Pedro Goncalves.
The Red Devils are understood to be tracking The 22-year-old Portuguese star, according to Portuguese outlet Record.
Record add that the Red Devils had an initial offer for the midfielder rejected by the Liga NOS side last month.
They reportedly rebuffed the Old Trafford side’s approach as they want their talisman to stay put until the end of the campaign at least.
It has been said that Pedro shares the same stance as his team, and wants to propel them to the league trophy.
He’s contracted to Leoes until 2025 but has a release clause of £53 million, which United are allegedly willing to meet.
In January 2020, United purchased Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon in a £55m deal and the Portugal international has been a revelation at Old Trafford.
United chiefs hope Bruno’s fellow countryman could make a similar impact.
Pedro has been in stunning form this campaign, scoring 12 goals and providing three assists across all competitions this season.
The talented midfielder, who spent two campaigns at Wolves, scored 10 times in six matches consecutively earlier this term on a scintillating run.
His displays have caught the eye of United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who believes the star could be an asset in the club’s assault on the PL title.
But they will have to fight off interest from bitter rivals Liverpool who are also said to keen on the midfield maestro.
