Everton are interested in signing Diogo Dalot from Manchester United
A report by Liverpool Echo mentions that Everton could make a third attempt to sign Manchester United loanee Diogo Dalot.
The Merseysiders tried and failed to sign the Portuguese full-back in consecutive transfer windows from 2019 to 2020. They came the closest last summer, but the deal did not go through.
United pulled the plug on any transfer to Everton in order to prevent strengthening a league rival. Instead, the 22-year-old flew out to Serie A on loan to AC Milan.
He has started in 18 games for the club in all competitions for Il Rossoneri and is said to be happy at the club despite his lack of league appearances. And now, Everton want to bring him to Goodison Park as they look for a successor to Seamus Coleman.
Dalot to Goodison?
The veteran right-back has shared game time at right-back with Mason Holgate this season. But the Toffees want a long-term solution now, and Dalot fits the bill.
The report states that the club prefers the former Porto man over other options such as Tariq Lampety and Max Aarons because of his height and versatility. The 6ft tall Dalot has the ability to play as a left-back as well.
Diogo Dalot is linked with a transfer move from Manchester United to Everton in the summer.
United signed Dalot in 2018 for a fee of £19million but failed to make a place for himself in the starting XI, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka clearly the club’s first-choice right-back.
His contract will be in its final two years once this season ends and this could make United consider a sale for him. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
And he would know he has admirers in Liverpool as Marcel Brands has tried to fund a move for him under Marco Silva and Carlo Ancelotti.
