As per the Telegraph, Manchester United have been alerted by Portuguese club Porto to complete the Alex Telles deal. Saturday [3rd October 2020] is the deadline as Telles flies to Brazil on Sunday for international duty to play in the World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.
Sources close to the deal are highly pessimistic about it. Porto are demanding a fee in excess of £18 but United have offered a little more than half of that.
The Red Devils are convinced its a fair price as Telles is in his final year of contract and the club could sign a pre-contract with him in January.
Reports suggested last month that because of agents fees to Pini Zahavi and Jorge Mendes and 15% of the deal going to Telles’ former club Galatasaray, Porto are playing a hardball in negotiations.
United have previously failed to sign Ben Chilwell and Sergio Reguilon who went on to join rival clubs.
If United don’t sign Telles, it will be a big blow to the Red Devils.
However, interestingly, reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed weeks ago that United have an alternative to Telles if the deal doesn’t go through.
