Aston Villa star Tyrone Mings is one of four defensive transfer targets on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United’s shortlist ahead of the summer transfer market.
The Red Devils boast the most potent attack in the Premier League this campaign, but the club’s title bid has been undermined by a leaky defence which shipped another three goals in last week’s damaging draw with Everton.
Indeed, only Leeds United have a poorer defensive record among the clubs currently in the top half of the standings and Solskjaer wants to address that issue as a priority in the summer.
Tyrone has emerged as an important component of a rapidly improving Villa side this campaign and is an established member of Gareth Southgate’s senior England roster.
The 27-year-old signed for Aston Villa on a permanent basis from Bournemouth back in 2019 and currently has two-and-a-half years left on his Villa deal.
According to ESPN, Solskjaer views him as a potential partner for Harry Maguire, while the likes of Braga’s David Carmo, Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde are also being considered.
Raphael represents the most eye-catching name on the wishlist and with his Los Blancos future in some doubt, given the fact his deal is due to expire in little over a year’s time, the Red Devils are well placed to land a player they missed out on during Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure.
Ole, meanwhile, is interested in retaining the services of the Swedish star Victor Lindelof but has reservations over the Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly on account of his ongoing fitness issues.
