Manchester United are looking for a top center back and the latest name on the radar is that of Cristian Romero.

As per the latest reports covered in Italy, Man Utd are leading to agree the signing of the Artgentine defender, who was in top form last season.

According to Corriere della Sera, several European sides are looking to hire the services of the 23-year-old center back but the Red Devils are in first place to get his signing done.

Atalanta signed him from Juventus on a two year loan deal and due to heavy interest from top clubs, they could make the move permanent after just one season.

The famous Italian source have mentioned that La Dea will certainly pay 16 million euros to permanently secure his signature but the same has not been communicated to the Old Lady as yet.

It is stated that only a massive offer this summer would force the Italian side to use the option to buy Romero from the Bianconeri. Moreover, it is claimed that at least an offer of 50 million euros (£43million) would be needed to prize him away from the Gewiss Stadium.

If he does end up leaving for £43million then that would the biggest sale in the history of Atalanta.

As per another report covered by Eco Di Bergamo (via Sport Witness), Man Utd have already submitted a bid worth £39million for the South American defender. So, they have come close to the asking price.

The former Genoa player was consistently solid at the back under Gasperini and was named the Serie A Defender of the Season. The 6 ft star also proved to be effective in the attacking third as he scored 3 goals and provided 5 assists in all competitions for the Italian side.
