Manchester United are looking to trigger the 12-month extension option in the Portugal international Diogo Dalot’s contract, according to a recent report.

The 22-year-old defender has started to become a regular under interim manager Ralf Rangnick ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, featuring the full 90 minutes in each of his side’s last six Premier League games.

Diogo has still been linked with a departure ahead of the expiry of his present deal in 2023, but the right-back is always thought to have been eager to fight for his place at the Theatre of Dreams.

Now, The Sun states that the Red Devils will exercise their right to renew his contract by one year in order to avoid losing the former Porto youngster on a free next year amid interest from Marco Rose’s Borussia Dortmund.

The report goes on to say that a fresh long-term deal is also not ruled out completely, and the player can expect a bumper pay rise should he make decision to commit his future to the Premier League giants.

The youngster boasts a total of one goal and three assists in 55 matches for his side since his £19.8 million arrival from Dragoes in the summer of 2018.
