Paul Ince thinks Manchester United should be readying a move for Brighton’s Yves Bissouma to replace the Brazilian star Fred in the heart of their midfield.
The 20-time English champions’ midfield has come in for criticism in recent terms with Scott McTominay and the South American singled out as potential weak leaks by pundits and fans.
Ralf Rangnick’s side also face uncertainty around the Frenchman Paul Pogba’s future with the player out of contract and yet to sign a fresh deal.
The Old Trafford outfit are expected to splash the cash this summer with West Ham’s Declan Rice said to be top of their shortlist but Paul reckons Bissouma, who could depart the south coast side at the end of the campaign, could be a cheaper alternative.
‘You have to look at United’s recruitment. They didn’t know about Bissouma, now he’s at Brighton and might cost £40m. They didn’t know about [N’Golo] Kante, now he’s at Chelsea,’ he told Genting Casino.
‘All these players have been about but why have United not spotted them? They need to get someone like Bissouma because the midfield needs to change. Fred’s not the answer, McTominay is one of those who’s a good player but would be better with someone like Bissouma next to him.’
