Manchester United are reportedly planning to make a summer move for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s back-line has come under increased criticism recently, and while the 20-times English champions signed Alex Telles from Portuguese giants Porto on deadline day, the Red Devils failed to land a defender in the transfer market.
With the powers-that-be at Old Trafford now looking ahead to future windows, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claims that the Red Devils are keeping a close eye on progress surrounding Varane’s contract situation at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Indeed, the World Cup-winning defender is out of contract with the Los Blancos in 2022 and is supposedly yet to enter talks over a contract extension, with the 20-times English champions therefore hoping to strike a cut-price deal for Frenchman when the transfer window will be re-opened next summer.
However, with the likes of Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones still on the books at Old Trafford, the 20-times English champions would most likely have to sell before they can buy.
France international defender has played 323 games for Real Madrid since arriving from Lens back in 2011, winning three La Liga trophies and four Champions Leagues in that time.
