Manchester United are once again linked with England international and West Ham United star Declan Rice. Can they secure his signature this summer?
According to Evening Standard, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to sign a play breaker for next season and Man Utd are prepared to bid for Rice in order to test the Hammers resolve.
In the recently concluded campaign, skipper Mark Noble mostly warmed the bench under Moyes and only started 8 games in the Premier League.
In such a scenario, 22-year-old Rice had the captain’s armband for the majority of the campaign and he led West Ham to their first top six position in over two decades.
The young holding midfielder has already made 15 appearances for the senior national side and he has been selected in the European Championships’ squad by manager Garethe Southgate.
ES claim that the Three Lions DM is not really pushing to leave West Ham this summer. However, in my view, he should and the lure of Champions League football at Old Trafford could be tempting. Last month, Manchester Evening News revealed that Rice is interested in agreeing a move to Man Utd.
As far as the valuation is concerned, it could take a bid worth £70million (ESPN) to sign Rice, whose current deal with the London based club will expire in over 3 years.
The Red Devils definitely need to sign a proven quality play breaker because they do not have one at the moment. Liverpool have Fabinho, City have Rodri, Chelsea have Kante and Jorginho. On the other hand, Ole has got a veteran in the form of Matic whose best days are long gone and the Serbian rarely makes the starting lineup.
Therefore, Man Utd should push to secure the signature of Declan Rice. We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the summer transfer window.
