Manchester United could face a fierce fight to keep hold of Odion Ighalo after reports stated Paris Saint-Germain made contact over landing the striker.
The 31-year-old is on loan at Old Trafford from Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua. But with his temporary agreement expiring at the end of January, the Parisians are thought to be considering making a move.
Although it is unclear at this stage whether the 20-times English champions will want to sign the Nigerian again.According to a recent report from Foot Mercato, the Ligue 1 club got in touch with Ighalo’s entourage to discuss a move.
However, SunSport understands this isn’t the case and there has been no contact between the club and Ighalo’s representatives.
PSG’s chief Leonardo is keen to bring in another forward as soon as possible. Edinson Cavani left for free when his contract expired in June.
Although Mauro Icardi made his move from Inter Milan permanent until 2024 and Arnaud Kalimuendo is breaking into the senior team, the club are still drawing up a shortlist.
And it is understood Odion is on there with his deal in China expiring at the end of next year, Ighalo could be available for a relatively low transfer sum – although his gigantic wages could prove a sticking point. He has shown glimpses of quality during his limited time wit the Red Devils since arriving in January.
He netted in each of his first four starts with five goals spread across the UEL and FA Cup but he was unable to earn a start or score in the PL.
