Manchester United transfer target Samuel Umtiti has reportedly decided that he wants to stay with Barcelona.

With Ole Gunnar looking to spend some serious money during the summer transfer window, there was some speculation in the media that the United Boss is seeking to add some world class defenders to his squad, with Umtiti high up on the shopping list.

United may be in the top halve of the Premier League, but they have already shipped too many goals this season and are in need of adding an experienced defender to that back-line in order to shore the the defence for next season.

A knee injury, which required surgery, saw the Frenchman lose his starting place to countryman Clement Lenglet last season, and reports suggested Barcelona are willing to allow him to depart the club for the right amount of money.

And recent reports have revealed Umtiti is available as part of a fire sale as they look to recoup £118m in transfer fees when the window opens, with indications that the Frenchman is also open to the idea of a fresh challenge away from the Camp Nou.

But Spanish outlet Sport claim Umtiti is not entertaining the idea of quitting Barcelona and intends to stay and fight for his place under new head coach Quique Setien.

Setein knows that he may not be able to spend big amounts of money in the summer transfer window, as the Coronavirus pandemic is hitting the big clubs hard, especially those who intend to spend some serious amounts of cash.

Look, United are a team that need to be improved in certain areas of the pitch, that is a fact, but trying to sign a man that has been plagued by injuries over the past few seasons may not have been the way to go.

Yes he is still young enough to develop and yes he has won a number of trophies, but he is not the same player he was a few seasons ago and could struggles to adapt to the pace and quality of the Premier league.

So maybe him staying put in the summer window may be a good thing, as he may not improve this United back-line much more than what they currently have in the defence, meaning that Solskjaer may be able to focus on his attentions of adding a defender that is not so injury prone.

And if they are to spend some serious amounts of money in the summer, then go big and try to land one of the best, which will solve many issues and make the United more defensively sound.
