Manchester United need to be active in the summer transfer window and sign quality players if they are to challenge Liverpool and Man City for the PL title next term.
According to The Sun, Real Madrid are interested in signing Paul Pogba from the Old Trafford outfit and for that, they could offer four players. One of the names mentioned in the report is that of James Rodriguez.
The well known British outlet have claimed that Solskjaer does not want to get rid of the club’s record signing and want to pair him with Bruno Fernandes.
As far as Pogba is concerned, I think the French international should be sold. The former Juventus star has been highly inconsistent for the Red Devils and this season, he has spent majority of his time on the treatment table.
On the other hand, as far as James Rodriguez is concerned, the Colombian international was a superstar with Porto and Monaco. Real Madrid opted to sign him after he won the Golden Boot prize in the 2014 World Cup.
However, since moving to the Bernabeu, the £174,000-a-week playmaker (Marca) has mostly warmed the bench under the management of Zidane.
The 28-year-old star spent two seasons on loan with Bayern Munich and returned to the Los Blancos last summer. This season, he only started 4 times in the La Liga before the suspension of the campaign and spent most of his time out injured or on the bench.
Therefore, in my view, Manchester United really do not need to sign James Rodriguez in the summer transfer window. Instead, Solskjaer should focus on luring a proven quality young player, who would be able to serve the club in the long run.
