Julian Nagelsmann hands Manchester United a blow in their pursuit of Kingsley Coman
According to Goal (h/t The Daily Mail), Manchester United have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman.
The 25-year-old is unhappy at the German side and feels he is not being paid enough that reflects his performances. He is keen to earn a payday similar to that of teammate Leroy Sane, who joined the club from Manchester City last summer.
Coman’s current contract at the Allianz Arena runs until 2023. With two years to go, the Bavarians are not treating a potential extension on a priority basis. It is fair to say that they now risk unsettling one of their key players heading into the new season.
Perhaps curiously, it has also been suggested that Coman is also unhappy with a lack of game time at Bayern. That looks set to be addressed, thanks to their new manager, Julian Nagelsmann.
According to the report, Nagelsmann has no plans to see Coman leave the club this summer. One of the continent’s budding young coaches, he will be keen to leave a mark during his time at Bayern.
It can be argued that under Nagelsmann, Coman has a clean slate to work with and can show Bayern just what a talent they have with his on-field performances. Whether the French ace will be willing to stay put another season or push for an exit this summer remains to be seen.
Nagelsmann’s stance is a blow for United who were keen on the winger this summer. The Red Devils however have prioritized the signing of Jadon Sancho and will not miss Coman if they land the Englishman.
