Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in signing Nuno Mendes, who will only be allowed to quit the club if his €70 million exit clause is activated, according to a recent report by Portuguese outlet A Bola.

He broke into the Sporting Lisbon senior team setup at the tail end of the last campaign and has since gone on to establish himself as the Portuguese side’s first-choice left-back.

A player, who has been highly regarded ever since his youth footballing days, has turned out 33 times for the Leoes.

That the defender has continued his progress in tremendous fashion throughout the past year or so has only attracted the interest further among the marquee names of European football.

Especially, there is a lot of interest stemming from England, with Manchester United and Liverpool allegedly keen on signing Mendes.

The interest from the Red Devils comes as a bit of a surprise, given the resounding success of Luke Shaw this term.

With Brandon Williams waiting in the wings to be given a chance and Alex Telles being a reliable backup option, there really doesn’t appear to be any room for another left-back in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s roster unless one of the aforementioned players departs Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, apart from the Red Devils and the Reds, the likes of AC Milan and Juventus are also a part of the hunt to sign the Portuguese ace.

For now, it looks like the chase for the talent is intensifying, with a number of elite European clubs vying for his signature.
