Manchester United continue to be linked with Kalidou Koulibaly even when they really do not need to sign a central defender in the summer. Neverthless, we take a look at the ongoing transfer saga.
Last month, La Repubblica (via Sport Witness) reported that the Senegalese international is expected to move to Manchester and named Man United as the favorites. The Italian outlet mentioned that the Red Devils are ready to make a big offer to lure the African star.
More recently, as per Cronache di Napoli (via Arena Napoli), the Old Trafford club are accelerating their efforts to sign the Napoli superstar. It is mentioned that the 20-time English champions would be ready to agree the signing for a fee of 90 million euros (£79million).
Last summer, Solskjaer opted to spend £80million (BBC) to sign Harry Maguire from the Foxes. Moreover, we also lured a right back in the form of Wan-Bissaka for £50million (Goal).
The English duo have largely improved things at the back for us and now, we must focus on other key departments.
As far as the central defense is concerned, apart from Maguire who was brought in 2019, Ivorian star Eric Bailly was lured in 2016, Swedish international Victor Lindelof was signed in 2017 and we already have Jones present as well. We do not even need to bring back Smalling, who is currently with Roma on loan.
Therefore, at the moment, our Norwegian boss has got ample experience and depth at his disposal and there is no dire need to splash £79million on Koulibaly, who will turn 29 in the summer and has spent considerable amount of time out injured this season.
