Manchester United could look to land Joachim Andersen if their move for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane fails, according to a report.
The Old Trafford outfit are at the front of the queue to snap up the French star from Los Blancos this summer.
They are confident of signing the centre-half for £40 million, although the La Liga side want significantly more than that fee.
According to French source Foot Mercato, the Red Devils are planning to enter the fray for Andersen in the coming weeks.
Failure to sign Raphael would see them rival Tottenham Hotspur for the Danish defender.
He has returned to Lyon following the end of his country’s Euro 2020 campaign. He came on as a substitute versus England but could not help the underdogs to reach the final, with Harry Kane netting an extra-time winner.
The 25-year-old centre-back spent the recent campaign on loan with Fulham in the Premier League. In spite of their relegation to the Championship, Joachim put in some eye-catching showings.
He was a leader in Scott Parker’s roster and became a key part of their defensive shape. The star made 31 appearances in the PL, bagging one goal.
He looked comfortable competing in the top-flight and could become an effective centre-half partner for Harry Maguire.
