Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann insists he wants the Germany international Leon Goretzka to stay at the club in spite of interest from Manchester United.
The Red Devils have pinpointed the German as a replacement for Paul Pogba should the towering midfielder push to leave this summer or depart on a free transfer in 2022, when his deal expires.
Leon joined Bayern on a free transfer from Schalke three years ago and he’s a regular at the Allianz Arena, netting eight times in 32 appearances last term.
Goretzka is believed to be open to leaving Die Roten after three years in Bavaria but Julian insists he’s a vital member of the team and he wants him to stay put for many seasons to come.
‘Leon is an important player for us. I would be happy to work with him for many years,’ he told the media during his unveiling at Bayern.
‘I think very highly of him. He is one of the most dangerous midfielders in the world. Everyone likes to have him in their team.’
Meantime, United are open to letting £40m signing Donny van de Beek leave after just 12 months at Old Trafford.
Real Madrid are interested in the player’s services and are said to have submitted a loan offer for the midfielder, which would include an option to buy next year.
Manchester United should sign Goretzka this summer if Pogba leaves
