Man City have made a surprise approach to sign Alexis Sanchez from Man United, according to reports in Chile. The 31-year-old forward was expected to join Pep Guardiola’s side in January 2018 before the Red Devils edged ahead of their city rivals and completed a deal with the Gunners.

However, Alexis struggled to make an impact at the Old Trafford and after only five goals in 45 games, Man United allowed him to join Inter on loan last August. Red Devils are looking to permanently offload Sanchez in the coming transfer window but will struggle to find a club who are willing to pay his £400,000-a-week salary on top of a transfer fee.

However, Man City have contacted Chile international’s representatives to find out what the attacker has demanded during his negotiations with the Nerazzurri. The report also claims that Red Devils are demanding a £17m fee for the Chilean winger.

Inter, meanwhile, are keen to extend Alexis’ loan a second time so that he is available for their UEL season next month. Sanchez remained on loan with Antonio Conte’s side for the rest of the Serie A campaign, and the Italian club want him in the squad for their UEL last-16 second-leg tie against Getafe on August 5.

Inter could meet Red Devils in the UEL final, which is due to take place on August 21. Nerazzurri are also interested in signing Alexis on a permanent deal but are not willing to meet Red Devils asking price. After his campaign was disrupted due to an ankle injury, Alexis has impressed since Serie A restarted in June with two goals and seven assists in 10 games.
