According to Norwegian reporter Fredrik A. N. Filtvedt of Dagbladet TV (h/t The Sun), Manchester United have entered the race for Thiago Alcantara.

The 29-year-old’s contract at Bayern Munich will expire next summer. He looks set to leave after leading Die Roten to the UEFA Champions League title earlier this month.

(h/t The Sun)Arch-rivals Liverpool are currently leading the race for the Spaniard. Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge expects to receive a bid for the £27m-rated midfielder in the next few days. (h/t The Sun)

Thiago is also keen for a new challenge and is set to leave the club this summer. (h/t The Sun)A player who is capable of unlocking defences, the midfielder would be a quality addition to the United midfield. Thiago was heavily linked with us back in 2013. Seven years on, little appears to have changed.

Then manager David Moyes was not convinced by the midfielder and instead chose to sign Marouane Fellaini. Thiago has since made a mockery of the decision as he continues to star for the German champions.

Signing Thiago would not just strengthen us but also prevent Liverpool from getting stronger. Jurgen Klopp’s side are a formidable unit with a blend of youth and experience. Adding Thiago to that mix would make them more daunting opponents.

With Champions League football back on the table, United need to have strength in depth to challenge on multiple fronts. However, with no senior players signed yet, the deficiency in our squad has not changed.

With the new campaign closing in, we will need to move fast or once again go risk undoing much of the good work done last season.
