The Red Devils are reportedly growing in confidence that they could strike a deal for Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez this summer. The 25-year-old midfielder is now being eyed up by Man United following the Spanish club’s exit from the UCL this week.
Man United could do with bolstering with a signing like Niguez, who has been immense in La Liga and a UCL level down the years. Red Devils only scraped into the top four this campaign and it may be a concern for the Norwegian manager that Nemanja Matic is now 32 years of age and past his peak.
As well as that, Andreas Pereira could be on his way out of Man United this summer, with £70m on Saul likely to be money well spent if they can get a deal done. Niguez may well feel he could do with a new challenge now after a lack of recent progress at Atletico, who will have been disappointed to be knocked out of Europe by RB Leipzig.
The Red Devils have also considered Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek this summer, so it seems that position is an area of concern for the club. Playing in central midfield, he is one of the first names on the team sheet under Diego Simeone and managed to net seven goals over this campaign.
But the season came to an abrupt end against RB Leipzig earlier this week and it’s claimed that Atletico’s Champions League failings could see the Spanish midfielder look to move on.
