There’s been a possibly big development in the Samuel Umtiti Man United transfer saga as Lyon seem unable to afford to re-sign their former footballer.
The 26-year-old centre-back has not been at his best for Blaugrana of late, and it looks like he could be on his way out of the Catalan club this summer.
However, the latest transfer news from Sport claims Samuel’s wages make him unaffordable for the Les Gones, which quite likely puts the move in severe doubt for the time being.
Red Devils has been linked with Umtiti and the Les Gones’ struggles could mean he’s now far more likely to make the move to Man United instead.
Man United could do with a top defensive addition this summer and France international could be a decent alternative to some of the club’s more big-name targets. Kalidou Koulibaly and Milan Skriniar have been linked with the Red Devils, but the French defender looks more readily available as Blaugrana look to offload him.
Despite his recent fitness record and dip in form, the World Cup winner has been a world-class centre-back in recent years and could be a huge upgrade on the likes of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in the Norwegian manager’s side. Red Devils were linked with Gabriel Magalhaes before his move to Arsenal.
The Norwegian manager is ready to trim his defensive options this summer with Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones all allowed to depart. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred defensive partnership but Man United continue to be linked with defenders this summer.
