Manchester United have reportedly made contact with Thiago Alcantara’s adviser, as reported by BILD Sport.

The report claims that there has been contact between United and the Spaniard’s representatives as they attempt to beat Liverpool to the signing of the Bayern Munich midfielder.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been considered long time favourites to sign the 29-year-old after the Spanish international told the Bavarian club he wants to leave this summer as he enters the last year of his contract.

However, it now seems that there is Premier League competition for Thiago’s signature from the Reds’ fiercest rivals.

United, who are are on the verge of securing the £40million arrival of Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek, have now also been linked with a move for the Liverpool target.

Thiago has expressed his move to Anfield, expressing a desire to work with Klopp as one of the main protagonists, however, the Premier League champions are seemingly yet to make an offer.

Bayern boss Hansi Flick still expects their man to leave the club. He revealed on Wednesday to Bild:

I assume he will leave, we were completely focused on the Champions League, and his contract wasn’t an issue in the past few weeks.

The German went on to say:

We haven’t had another conversation now, but I think his decision has been made.

This is a transfer saga which has enveloped much of the Liverpool summer, it seems the Reds remain reluctant to pay the asking price needed to get the deal done.

Thiago possesses bags of quality and would be a worthy addition to Klopp’s squad so to see him join United would be a bitter pill to swallow for Liverpool fans across the globe, so plenty of Reds supporters will be desperate for their club to get a deal done sooner rather than later.
