Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is prepared to battle it out with Chelsea to land Leicester City star Ben Chilwell with defender Luke Shaw’s future at Manchester United in doubt, according to the latest reports.
Although the Old Trafford club have enjoyed a brilliant run of form since the turn of the year they remain 34 points adrift of runaway PL champions Liverpool.
Solskjaer knows the Red Devils need to close the gap to the top, saying previous week that the club ‘will never stand still, we are always on the lookout if there’s anything possible.’
And now The Sun claim that United have set their sights on strengthening at left-back, with Ben emerging as a major target for the Red Devils this summer.
Ole wants to build a defence that can challenge for the title next campaign and is ramping up efforts to sign the Leicester man, who has already usurped Shaw as England’s first-choice left-back.
He has impressed defensively and going forward this term, scoring three times and laying on as many assists for the UCL-chasing Foxes
Leicester rate the left-back at £60 million – though might hope to incite a bidding war between Chelsea and United – while he already has a relationship playing along with Harry Maguire, who left the King Power Stadium for Old Trafford last year.
Shaw, meanwhile, has been enjoying one of his longest runs in the Red Devils team, starting their last 10 straight PL matches dating back to February against Wolves.
