Manchester United could allegedly move for Villarreal defender Pau Torres this transfer window.

The Red Devils are reportedly in the market for a new centre-half due to the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano has been mentioned with a switch to Old Trafford, but it is said that the Frenchman will not be joining the Red Devils before the October deadline.

According to a recent report by the Manchester Evening News, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side could consider a swoop for Villarreal’s Torres in the coming weeks.

The 23-year-old star enjoyed an impressive 2019-20 term for the Yellow Submarine, contributing two goals and two assists in 36 games in all competitions.

The Spain international, who has also previously been mentioned with Chelsea, Manchester City and Barcelona, is said to have a €50m (£45.6m) release clause in his existing deal at Estadio de la Ceramica.

The Red Devils are due to start their 2020-21 Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace on September 19.

Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur bos Jose Mourinho has reportedly personally called defender Sergio Reguilon in an attempt to beat his old club Manchester United to the Real Madrid left-back.

The 23-year-old star impressed out on loan at Sevilla last term and was a key figure as Julen Lopetegui’s side triumphed in the UEFA Europa League.

Sergio has been subject of interest from multiple PL clubs this summer, with United thought to hold the advantage, but OkDiario reports that Jose has approached the star directly to explain why he should pick Spurs instead.
