Well, it seems as though Andreas Pereira could be the first major casualty of the summer, with the midfielder set to arrive for a Lazio medical shortly.

It’s fair to say the Brazilian hasn’t really flattered the Old Trafford faithful over the last few years. Although the season is young, he’s yet to play a competitive minute this term.

The fact that we haven’t even seen him make the substitutes bench gave the impression that the writing was on the wall.

Well this morning, Corriere dello Sport(Monday print edition), translated via Sport Witness, are making a bold claim.

Apparently, the 24-year-old United star is to arrive for his Lazio medical in the ‘next few hours’ ahead of a departure from the Theatre of Dreams…

In terms of a fee, CdS quote Brazilian reports of a deal being worth around £25m.

It’s unclear as to whether that’s a flat-out fee, a loan with an option to buy or made up of add-ons and bonuses. Either way, if United can get that sort of money for a fringe player, that’s excellent business.

It always felt likely that Pereira would leave this summer, in one capacity or another. Simply put, he’s just not good enough if United have title aspirations – and the club have given him plenty of time and opportunity.

There is a small snag from CdS, though, who claim Lazio have to sell before they can buy. Surely the fact that Pereira is presumably set for his medical today tells us this deal is progressing far enough that they feel confident about the signing, mind…

As for Pereira, this feels like a good move for him. Lazio is a huge club, his game will suit the Serie A and I don’t doubt that he’ll make a positive impression.

Hopefully, a deal can be done quickly, giving Solskjaer times to recycle those funds back into the squad…
