ergio Romero could sign for Aston Villa this summer with Manchester United ready to include the Argentine in a deal to land Jack Grealish.
United are interested in landing the 24-year-old but Villa have put a prohibitive £75 million asking price on the midfielder’s head.
Metro.co.uk understands the Red Devils value Grealish at closer to £55 million but the club’s initial bid of £45 million, plus a series of add-ons, was rejected.
With talks at an impasse, the Daily Mail claim United are willing to include shot-stopper Romero in a bid to persuade Villa to part with Grealish.
The 33-year-old star has provided back-up to David De Gea in the last five seasons but he’s grown increasingly frustrated by his lack of senior team opportunities after seeing the Spaniard’s form nosedive.
The Argentine feels he is now at a stage of his career in which he needs to play every week and the return of Dean Henderson to United this week will only limit Romero’s chances even further.
Villa attempted to bring in Bournemouth ace Aaron Ramsdale but the goalkeeper opted to sign for Sheffield United, who needed a new stopper after Dean’s loan finished at Bramall Lane.
Romero is widely considered the best back-up stopper in the league and given Chelsea, Everton and Leeds United are interested in the former Sampdoria ace, it’s likely that they’d be keen.
United’s priority remains landing Jadon Sancho and the board tend to work on one deal at a time but the unique nature of this summer’s transfer market means the club cannot afford to squander valuable time.
