Manchester United were interested in luring Erling Haaland in the winter transfer window this year but the youngster decided to sign for Borussia Dortmund instead.
The star striker, who recently won the Golden Boy award, has been in red hot form over the past 12 months and he is without doubt, one of the best finishers around.
Retired center forward Alan Shearer has backed Man Utd to secure the signing of the 20-year-old star to improve their strike-force.
After United’s boring 0-0 draw against rivals and neighbors Manchester City, the legendary goal scorer claimed on MOTD (via MEN):
“I mentioned Cavani at Southampton a few weeks ago, if Rashford did that here, he would score. A top-class forward would do that. Gamble into the space and that’s what I think they are lacking – and it showed today.”
Asked who would be perfect for the role, the50-year-old responded “Haaland or Mbappe.”
In the current campaign, so far, the Norwegian international, who was the second highest goal-scorer in the last season’s Champions League, has directly contributed in 20 goals in just 14 appearances for Dortmund. He has already netted 6 goals in as many starts for the senior national side.
Recently, The Mail have revealed that in the coming months, Man Utd are expected to express interest in Haaland after failing to lure him last winter.
His current contract with the Bundesliga side will expire in 2024 but in the summer of 2022, the release clause of about £65million would become active and therefore, the British source claim that BvB would want to cash in on him next summer.
As far as his current market value is concerned, earlier this month, Spanish source Mundo Deportivo reported that Haaland is worth around 155 million euros (£140million).
