Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that the Italian heavyweights are hoping to keep hold of Alexis Sanchez for the rest of their Europa League season.

As it stands, the Chilean forward’s loan at San Siro is set to expire on August 7, meaning that as well as the remainder of the Serie A campaign, he will be available to play against Getafe in the Europe League.

The 20-times English champions are allegedly refusing to extend the agreement on as Inter Milan look to advance deep into the European competition, however, Marotta is still hopeful that a solution can be reached between the two parties.

“It’s an anomalous issue, considering the Europa League can be changed by the absence of certain players. The situation has not been resolved yet, we are working to at least keep hold of him for the entire Europa League,” Marotta told Sky Sports Italia.

The 31-year-old has scored four times and contributed 10 assists in 27 appearances for Inter this season, including four goals and nine assists in 20 Serie A outings.

Sanchez’s current deal at Old Trafford is set to expire in the summer of 2022, however, Chilean is likely to depart from the Old Trafford ahead of the next season.
