Manchester United have been linked with several strikers this summer but latest reports suggest that they are close to signing Edinson Cavani.

According to Mirror Sport, Man Utd have agreed a two year deal worth £20.8million with the Uruguayan star that will make him earn £200,000-a-week.

The renowned British source have claimed that the Red Devils’ moved to lure the free agent striker after deciding against signing highly expensive winger, Jadon Sancho, from Borussia Dortmund.

According to Goal, the 33-year-old star should arrive in Manchester today in order to seal his move to Old Trafford before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

Over the years, Cavani has proved to be one of the best center forwards in the world and his record is brilliant. The South American star was a major hit in Italy with Napoli and then went on to become PSG’s all time top goal scorer.

He won every major domestic prize with the French giants and scored 200 goals in all competitions for them. Last season, he had an injury hit campaign and only made 22 appearances, scored 7 goals and provided 3 assists.

He has not played at all since the football was suspended due to COVID-19 outbreak in March.

Man United still have not replaced Lukaku and they do need to lure a quality striker. Edinson Cavani will be a world class signing but the only problem is that the former Palermo man would just be a short term fix.

Nevertheless, he is way better goalscorer than Anthony Martial, who is not an out and out center forward, and in my view, Cavani should start ahead of the Frenchman at Old Trafford.

The veteran striker used to earn around £328,000-a-week (L’Equipe – talkSPORT) in France, so, keeping in view that the player is going to join on a free transfer, Man Utd have done well by agreeing a salary of just £200,000-a-week.
