Manchester United are looking considerably stronger after a last minute splurge on transfer deadline day, as they made four new signings.
Amad Diallo is not due to meet up with his new team-mates until January, and will spend the first half of the season with Atalanta.
But Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani are expected to be thrown straight into the first team.
Telles joined from Porto after weeks of speculation in a deal worth around £15m, while Cavani joined on a free transfer.
Teenage winger Facundo Pellistri has also signed on the dotted line, but will likely spend time with the U23’s before linking up with the first team.
Here’s United’s strongest possible XI after the end of the summer transfer window…
David de Gea keeps his place in goal – for the time being, at least, with Dean Henderson breathing down his neck.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be at right-back, while new signing Alex Telles replaces Luke Shaw on the left side of the defence.
Solskjaer said of the Brazilian: “He is a player we have been tracking for some time and his performances over the past few years are exactly what we are looking for.
“He is a fighter and a winner and will add real determination and competition to the squad.
“Alex has the qualities, both as a player and as a person, that we want here at Manchester United.”
United failed to sign a new centre-back, so their best possible options there are probably still Harry Magiure and Victor Lindelof.
Moving into midfield, in an ideal world Solskjaer would be able to play Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek in the holding roles, while Bruno Fernandes continues at no. 10.
Marcus Rashford is on the left-wing, with Mason Greenwood now United’s best option on the right.
It would be unfair to dislodge Anthony Martial up front for the time being, despite the signing of Edinson Cavani.
However, once the experienced new boy is fit and ready to go, there could be a dog fight to become the main man in attack.
“He’ll bring energy, power, leadership and a great mentality to the squad but, most importantly, he’ll bring goals,” Solskjaer said of Cavani.
“Edinson knows exactly what it takes to succeed and we are all looking forward to seeing him make an impact at Manchester United.”
That leaves Facundo Pellistri to settle for a place on the bench, and he will also no doubt feature for the U23’s while he settles in.
