Manchester United are reportedly keen on a potential transfer deal for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Red Devils are looking to sign the Napoli defender to improve their defence.

The English club has identified Jadon Sancho as the club’s priority this summer and is diverting all their resources to complete the deal.

So, To fund the move for the Senegalese defender, the Red Devils will supposedly look to offload Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo this summer, according to 90min.

This would be a fine piece of business by the Manchester club if they can pull it off, with Koulibaly an ideal upgrade on their current defensive options.

Smalling and Rojo have been out on loan this season and are no longer needed at Old Trafford, while Jones has also had a peripheral role in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

Smalling is already attracting attention from several Italian sides and Rojo is looking to go back to Argentina on a permanent deal to his boyhood club Estudiantes. The future of English defender Phil Jones is uncertain and the club would look to sell him if the need arises.

Koulibaly is a massive upgrade on Harry Maguire’s current partners in the heart of Manchester United’s defence and his arrival could see the likes of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly relegated to being squad players.

Solksjaer is looking to build a squad which can challenge for the top honours next season and Koulibaly could be the missing piece of the puzzle.

Gazzetta Dello Sport recently claimed Koulibaly could leave for around £63million this summer, and 90min state he’s been given permission to leave.

This news would certainly lift the spirits of Manchester United, who should do everything in their power to bring the Senegalese defender to the Theatre of Dreams next season.
