Manchester United to target Timo Werner and Moussa Dembele to replace Odion Ighalo

According to Goal (h/t Express), Manchester United have earmarked Timo Werner and Moussa Dembele to fill the void left up outgoing star Odion Ighalo.

The Nigerian is set to return to his parent club Shanghai Shenhua after an excellent loan spell at Old Trafford. He will leave the club with an unbeaten record in the red shirt.

Both Werner and Dembele have enjoyed excellent seasons in Germany and France respectively.

The German ace returned to action last week and he scored a hat-trick against Mainz, further enhancing his rising reputation.

With 30 goals and 12 assists in 38 appearances this season, he averages more than one goal contribution per game. Having turned 24 just earlier this year, he could turn into a scary proposition in the coming seasons. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The major obstacle in our pursuit of the German is Liverpool. Unfortunately for us, it appears that the Reds are in touch with the player regarding a move.

It was revealed by Raphael Honigstein on BT Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo) that Klopp has been in contact with the player.

Although losing out on Werner to our arch-rivals is a sobering thought, in Dembele, United have just the right alternative.

Moussa Dembele has enjoyed an impressive season at the Groupama Stadium and has scored an impressive 22 goals and 7 assists in 42 appearances.

In Dembele, we will be securing a player who is already familiar with English football. The Frenchman has made more than 150 appearances, having played for both Fulham and Celtic earlier in his career.

Given Werner’s lack of experience outside Germany, Dembele could find it easier to adapt to the Premier League.
