Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will only talk directly with Erling Haaland amidst interest from Manchester United
According to ESPN, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Erling Haaland as his number one target heading into the summer transfer window.
The Norwegian ace is one of the hottest players in world football. He was once again among the goals in the UEFA Champions League with a brace against Sevilla on Tuesday.
That took his tally in Europe’s premier competition to 20, one better than Solskajer’s at 19. The youngster is now top scoring Norwegian in the competition.
Manchester United manager Solskjaer managed Erling Haaland while at Molde
Speaking ahead of the Europa League clash against AC Milan, Solskjaer admitted it was only a matter of time before his record was broken. Having managed the player during his formative years at Molde, Solskjaer has a personal connection with the Borussia Dortmund ace.
The United boss refused to elaborate on his relationship in the presser but indicated that he would get in touch with the player himself to convey whatever he wanted.
“Whatever I want to say to him I’ll say in Norwegian directly to him.”
While Solskjaer’s comments do not directly indicate any overtures made towards Haaland, it does indicate a promising line of communication that remains open to United.
With him being able to get in touch with the player directly, there is a real possibility that Solskjaer could add a personal touch in selling his vision of United.
Whether that goes on to make the difference in the race to land Haaland remains to be seen.
United are not alone in keeping tabs on the player. The likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Juventus and Bayern Munich are all in the race to land the prolific Haaland. (h/t ESPN)
