Brighton keeping tabs on Manchester United star Daniel James

According to The Sun, Brighton and Hove Albion are keen to make a summer swoop for Manchester United winger Daniel James.

The Welsh speedster has been at United for two seasons now after joining from Swansea City in 2019. He has since made 72 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring nine goals and making nine assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

A talented player, James at times fails to make use of his speed to the best effect. This lack of consistency has seen him struggle to hold down a starting spot at Old Trafford. Capable of playing on either wing, this versatility is another tool that he could look to exploit in his favour.

James’s opportunities next season could now come at a premium thanks to the arrival of Jadon Sancho. The English international looks set to take over as the club’s first-choice right-winger. With Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Amad Diallo also in the picture, James will find game time at a premium.

With Marcus Rashford occupying the left flank, James’ versatility will do him little good. At 23, he should be playing regularly to further his development. This could be out of the question at United.

His former boss Graham Potter could however prove to be the saviour. Now at Brighton, he is keen to reunite with his former protege at the Amex. It was under Potter at Swansea that James first caught the attention of United.

According to the report, Brighton are keen to sign James on a permanent basis. They are however not averse to taking him on loan either. Either way, the chance of scenery is something that James could do with.

The Seagulls play an attacking game and James could thrive in the setup given his pace. With Jesse Lingard potentially also set to leave, it remains to be seen if United will sanction a permanent departure for the Welshman.
