Transfer News: Manchester United keeping tabs on £17m American inform starlet

Manchester United among the clubs keen on Daryl Dike

According to Teamtalk, Manchester United are among a number of clubs keeping tabs on Barnsley starlet Daryl Dike.

The 20-year-old American international is currently on loan at the Oakwell Stadium from MLS side Orlando City. He has so far made 12 appearances for them, scoring five goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)

As per the report, Dike looks set to stay on in England once his loan spell comes to an end. However whether that is with Barnsley remains to be seen.

Dike’s importance to Barnsley cannot be understated. The 20-year-old has played a key part in their rise up the table. The Tykes are currently in fifth position in the Championship, well within a playoff spot.

The American striker’s performances have not gone unnoticed. He recently won the Barnsley Player of the Month award for March. His winner against Birmingham City was also selected as the club’s goal of the month.

Barnsley boss Valerien Ismael was full of praise for the striker and even described his winning goal as one of the best he has witnessed in 29 years of football.

Solskjaer needs a new striker going into next season

Promotion to the top-flight could see the Tykes make the deal for Dike permanent. They have an option to make his deal permanent at around £17m with a 20% sell-on clause.

Apart from United, the likes of Chelsea, Everton, Leeds, Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United and Newcastle United are all keeping tabs on his progress.

As per the report, Everton are the side who have so far shown the greatest interest.

Dike is clearly an interesting prospect and is deserving of the attention he currently gets. However, he is some way off the ace striker the Red Devils are seeking.

It will make more sense for the club to bring him on as a prospect rather than someone who goes straight into the first-team.
