Manchester United make a bid for Manchester City ace Sergio Aguero

According to FootMercato (h/t The Daily Mail), Manchester United have made a shocking attempt to land soon-to-be free agent Sergio Aguero.

The Argentine superstar is set to leave Manchester City in the summer after 10 excellent years at the Etihad. During this time, he established himself as one of the best strikers in the league, netting 181 goals and 54 assists in just 271 games. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Despite being 32, Aguero has attracted considerable attention from a number of Europe’s top teams. He has received at least five offers from across Europe including Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.

With Edinson Cavani potentially leaving and Anthony Martial misfiring, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to shore up his attack in the summer. United have been overly dependent on Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes for goals this season.

Despite his age, signing Aguero could be a shrewd move for United. The 32-year-old has shown himself to be a consistent performer and is one who can be relied on in the big games.

Any potential move would draw comparisons to that of Carlos Tevez who swapped Old Trafford for the Etihad in 2009. Signing City’s all-time leading goalscorer is one way for the Red Devils to get even.

Signing Aguero would land us a proven goalscorer but he will still remain a short-term option going forward.

Aguero is one of the best strikers to grace the English game in modern times. The Argentine has time and again proven himself worthy of the title ‘ace’.

A new chapter at United would be intriguing. However, he will be arriving at the club as a player past his prime. Unless it is also supplemented by us securing another striker, it is difficult to see us make much progress next season.

  1. Why does Man.UTD not go for PETSON DAKA from Red Bull Salzburg. He is a very young forward at a very good price.
