Following Manchester United’s decision to have youngster Dean Henderson as their back-up for the Spain international David De Gea in the goalkeeping position this campaign, it always seemed obvious that Sergio Romero would not have chances to play for his side.

The Argentina international could not find his way out in the summer transfer market, and as he continues not to get any minutes on the green grass, the need for a transfer only gets clearer.

Now it seems the former Sampdoria shot-stopper had a real chance to move to Spain, according to the latest reports.

Cope reports that the La Liga outfit Valencia came close to agreeing on a deal to sign Sergio in the upcoming January transfer market.

According to reporter Hugo Ballester, following an injury to Jasper Cillessen, Los Che had the operation for the Manchester United star ‘done’.

Cope claims that Valencia had closed the signing of the Argentina international three weeks ago.

However, their coaches ended up turning it down, and the Spanish side decided to rule out the signing, Cope says.

There are not any details on how much would Valencia were prepared to pay Manchester United.

Romero’s deal with the Red Devils expires at the end of the term, but given his urge to play, it’d be no surprise to see him leaving next month.

In other news, former United forward Louis Saha has laid into Paul Pogba’s entourage Mino Raiola and blames him solely for the latest transfer talk.

“This is unbelievable, the headlines were about Pogba because of the agent – it wasn’t even Pogba who said anything,” he told GentingBet.

“I can’t understand how these things can happen. This is absolutely against the interests of the club.

“I can’t believe that Paul knew about it, I just can’t believe it. We need to find out what happened as there might be more to it but the timing of it was really bad.”
