Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah is reportedly close to move to Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen. Fosu-Mensah has only made three starts for the club in the last four years, but now it seems that his time at Old Trafford is coming to an end.

United had signed the Dutch defender from Ajax’s academy when he was 16 years old in 2014. Fosu-Mensah made his Manchester United debut as a substitute against Arsenal in February 2016.

Since then, the defender has only made 29 appearances for the club. The Dutch international struggled to make it as a regular member of the team despite spending time out on loan at Crystal Palace and Fulham in the last four years.

This season, Fosu-Mensah has made only one appearance, during the Champions League game against Istanbul Basaksehir which United lost 2-1.

according to Manchester Evening News , the 23- years old is set to join Leverkusen for a fee of £1.

The defender had reportedly rejected a new contract by United last year, but the Red Devils had triggered Fosu-Mensah’s one-year extension clause knowing that the German club was interested in signing him.

There were other clubs including Ajax and Hertha Berlin who were interested in the out-of-favour Manchester United defender, but now it seems Leverkusen have beaten them to the punch.
