A couple of days back, we published a story (via The Sun) claiming that Manchester United are ready to beat Spurs to steal the signing of Joe Hugill from the Black Cats.

The latest reports going on in the media now suggest that the Red Devils have reached an agreement with the player and are close to hiring his services.

According to Football Insider, Man Utd are set to sign the 16-year-old striker and have agreed personal terms with him. The center forward will sign a professional contract with the PL giants once he turns 17 in October.

However, the source has stated that the Old Trafford club must agree a compensation fee with The Black Cats to get the signing done and that will likely be around £300,000.

The teenage boy made his debut for Sunderland’s U-18 side back in November last year and scored a goal against Middlesbrough in a contest that his team lost 4-3.

Few months back, Hugill was promoted to the U-23 side. He made his debut in the Premier League 2 in February against the Hammers and found the net twice. Unfortunately, once again, he ended up on the losing side (4-2). So far, the youngster has not been able to taste victory with The Black Cats.

Let’s hope the starlet will join us and progress to become a first team star. For now, our current strike-force is not good enough and must be improved in the summer transfer window.

44 goals in 29 league games is just not good enough. We had 14 more goals at this stage in the last campaign. Robin van Persie scored 26 goals in our title winning 2012-13 season but since then, no Man United striker has been able to score even 20 league goals in a season.

Therefore, Man Utd need a serial goal-scorer for next term and they must splash the cash to sign one in the summer.
